2010 Cleveland Reunion
Our upcoming reunion is coming soon -- Thurs July 28 – Sat July 31 and we wanted to get give you a sneak preview of our event in advance of the upcoming details in The Cooley Communiqué.
First, an important note: our formal dinner gathering will be on Thursday evening, July 28 at 6pm sharp, so please book your travel accordingly!
After feedback from our last reunion, we will also be seating people by their descendancy where possible to allow for greater networking and sharing opportunities during dinner. Of course, all Cooley descendants are welcome to attend our reunion whether or not they are members. Here’s an opportunity to network with your Cooley cousins and look for connections to your immigrant ancestor whether he be Ensign Benjamin or any of the other lines. Our DNA study has identified several Cooley lines not linked to Benjamin, and CFAA Member Greg Parker will discuss the findings in his after-dinner presentation. Please encourage your Cooley cousins to attend regardless whether or not they are members and regardless of their immigrant ancestor.
CFAA Genealogist Doug Cooley will present results from the recent Debrett Research effort in England and we will close the formal portion of the dinner with presentations from former CFAA President Jay Smith and his wife JenaVee, who will share stories from their recent global travels in Asia and beyond.
On Friday, we will spend the day at Cleveland’s renowned Western Reserve Historical Society and Museum. It is the largest privately supported regional historical society in the nation and offers a wealth of resources for genealogy research. Included in your registration is admission to the WRHS Library, Museum, and the adjacent Crawford Auto Aviation Museum which houses a fascinating display of historically significant airplanes and automobiles. Reunion Committee Chair Roger Cooley will host an informal reception in the evening at his home.
On Saturday morning, we will hold our business meeting. We have a wide variety of interesting topics to cover and important decisions to make. I encourage all to participate as your views are important to the long-term success of our organization.
Following the business meeting, CFAA’s Genealogist Doug Cooley will close the formal events with a valuable presentation/workshop on computer basics, while imparting some additional advice as specifically related to Genealogy.
After the conclusion of the reunion, you may want to take advantage of some local sightseeing (i.e. the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame are just a couple of ideas!).
Please also submit any interesting biographies of “Notable Cooleys” to Roger Cooley (roger@cooley.cc), especially if they have any Ohio connection! A compilation of these biographies as well as other interesting information will be available to all in the reunion booklets to be distributed at check-in! Volunteers for this event are also welcome; again please contact Roger Cooley with any questions at 440-892-0473.
